The 2010 Caravaglio Vino da Tavola Rosso is a delicious fruity red wine made by winemaker Antonio Caravaglio on a certified 100% organic farm in the tiny town of Malfa on the island of Salina off the coast of Sicily. We enjoyed this wine with a dinner of minestrone soup, ricotta filled manicotti, meatballs, sausage, olives and breadsticks.
Isola di Salina is part of the Sicilia IGT wine region and this wine is made from Nero d’Avola grapes, Sicily’s most widely grown red grape variety. With a population of only 943 people, Malfa is most well known for its sweet white wine, Malvasia. In addition to grapes, olives, figs and pricklypears are also grown here, as well as tons of capers for export.
This wine is imported to the U.S. by North Berkeley Imports.
